[If you weren't present for the memo, you receive a letter under your door that informs you of your eventual departure to greater pastures... so to speak. The experimental venture to seek out if it's true that labyrinths are affecting the land above it with their releases.

At some point today, your employer gives you a small crate—they'll either hand it to you in person or leave it in front of the door of your room. They, or their note, will jest, saying that, just because you'll be out of town, it doesn't mean you still don't work for them. And yet, they insist that this is a gift for you to keep. After all, it's not like your employer can tag along and sell things to an empty town. Well... In time, they say, with a laugh. If you're reading a note, there is no laugh, but they do write "lol."

As long as you aren't too distracted, you'll have plenty of time to pack your things. It's not long before everyone's mode of transportation arrives: it's a large, wooden "train" that consists of three carriages connected by oddly flexible, iron bars. There are no tracks to guide it: just two horses with very large hooves and burlap drawn along their faces. One could think that two horses wouldn't be capable of pulling such a nonsensical contraption, but here they are, having just pulled this large thing along rather smoothly to the edge of the town... across the sand, of all things, too.

Inside each car, you'll find that each "booth" has been carved meticulously from sturdy wood. The scent of woodstain is present, but weak, indicating that it's a very fresh coat. The seats are also made of wood, and look more like benches. Thankfully, with storage under your seat and overhead, you won't have to sit with anything on your lap. Better yet, you might get a window seat for you to watch the surroundings as they pass.

You, the other explorers, as well as the Scout Leader and her Scouts, all fit aboard this odd little train, and a large, heavy bell sounds right before the train is pulled into motion. It creaks as the horses tug it along effortlessly. The scenery outside your window depicts the coastline. It seems like you won't be far from it. For an hour or so, you have this lovely sight to behold as the train simply glides over the terrain.

Suddenly, everything outside the carriage is shrouded in a haze of flying dust. It feels like you're riding over rocks now. You can't even see the sun anymore, and it should still certainly be out because you haven't been on this thing THAT long. The air has immediately become thicker, too, making it a little harder to breathe. Yet, the Scouts don't seem troubled, and the horses pulling this train--bless their hearts--persevere without any trouble.

Eventually, you arrive.

The Scouts don't have any unloading to do—they're already set up, so they give you your tents and rations (cans and instant food that should last a week, unless you're a big eater,) lead you to the Base Camp area, then follow their leader down the road to their makeshift headquarters. The Scout Leader doesn't make a grandiose statement—actually, she didn't do much talking on the train either. For some reason, she's quiet, and maintaining eye contact is difficult for her today.

So... you have tents to set up, along with your own belongings and the crates you got from your boss. And, well, there's not much else to investigate unless you want to toy around with the ruins, mistaken a mirage for something you thought was real, or check out that junk pile. Or bug the Scouts.

The air is thick, and there's a slight chill in the air... ahh, at least the sky is lovely. It's a bright blue. There's not a single cloud to be seen, and not a single sun to be seen either! Nope. You don't see the sun in the sky. At all.]

((You can totally approach the Scout Leader if you want—she's being quiet for IC Reasons and not "I don't want to play her" reasons, rest assured! In fact, now that she's here with you guys, you can always address her whenever you'd like—just make a post addressing her, or ping me somewhere to let me know that you want her in your thread. She can also put you in contact with the Queen! SO, FOR THE CRATES:

Garrison: a whistle, half a dozen flares, a clipboard and pen, and a couple pairs of handcuffs... wait, is that pair fuzzy?
Bakery: the box has an apron, a pair of mitts, and several packs of "INSTANT--ADD WATER!!" cupcake mix. the rest of the box is full of sprinkles.
Library: a giant OVERDUE stamp, a blank notebook, lots of sheets of paper, some pens in a rainbow of colors. also, a blanket.
Weapons: a toolbox full of the necessities, and a knife. and a small axe. the rest of the box is full of nails of varying sizes and degrees of rust.
Flower: blank cards and envelopes, a small watering can, and the rest of the box is full of unknown/random seeds.
Boutique: did you ever want socks that match underwear? well. you got it. you get several pairs, actually. also a small sewing kit and some spools of thread.
Clniic: a basic first aid kit, a mouth mask, surgical tools, and... the rest of the box is full of random pills that supply various effects.))

[After that last labyrinth, all the heavy conversations he had to have to regain his ear and his sister's arrival, Van wanted to do something that was both relaxing enough to wind down yet productive enough to keep his mind from wandering.]

[...Which is why he can now be seen wearing a t-shirt and swimming trunks on the beach, hard at work on what looks like the starting foundation of a sandcastle. Oddly, he seems to keep his back towards the water, only glancing in that direction if he must...He also has a pile of seashells next to him and seems to be listening to each one before setting them aside.]

[ it's lucky that Tear's found herself a job pretty much off the bat. working in a flower shop is a lot different from her duties as a soldier, but it's not bad. it's actually nice. ... strange, though, when she comes to her room each night and finds letters addressed from... someone? they're love confessions, too. ]

... Excuse me, [ she says to the nearest person she finds, holding the letter up, ] you wouldn't happen to know who's been leaving these, would you?

[FOR POST-LABYRINTH EXPLORERS: you wake up somewhere along the beach, as though you just washed up on shore. it's especially hot today, and yet, the sun bearing down on you doesn't seem to be causing your injuries any additional discomfort. in fact, the heat seems to be relieving some of your pain—you might be lucky enough to feel no pain at all. still, you should probably get some help.]

[there's some immediately observable changes in Port Perplex. you see, the ocean is a vivid aqua color now, no longer trapped beneath a thick fog that once stuck to its surface. if you look out in the distance over the ocean, you'll see a beautiful sky. the sand along the shore is now soft and warm. furthermore, there's some coconut-bearing palm trees dotting the shore. in summary, this looks like a tropical beach now!

for the next however many days, you'll be able to discover some other things, as well as participate in the festivities taking place all along the beach. it helps that your employer MIGHT have just given everyone a vacation! you see, every single one of the townsfolk are thrilled for this new development, and they're more than eager to celebrate its arrival!]

there was a labyrinth in the middle of the night—one that took place in the forest. what came of that anyway? well, this forest sure seems bigger than before. the trees provide a leafy canopy over everything on Tier 2—in fact, every part of Tier 2 is really dark now. in some places it might still seem like nighttime. huh. it wasn't like that before, but okay.

if you're in town at all over the course of the day, you'll catch wind of an old rumor that might stick out more than anything you've heard recently:

"I remember now—when I was a kid, I heard there was buried treasure in the forest!"

"...where exactly did you hear this? Because I heard the same thing!"


try as you might to find the verbal source of the rumor, but you won't find it. gossip's gossip, after all. or maybe it's not important.

[Having arrived here, Lightning is more than happy stepping off of the boat. She and vehicles tend not to mix. Her companion, a rather large, white chocobo looks in worse shape than she does.

She is still picking confetti out of her hair as she walks the streets. Light is all up for exploring her new surroundings. How else to get things done?]

What: A mingle in which you hear a weird sound, but otherwise nothing new

[you can hear a whistling in the distance... sometimes it's almost a howl. however, if you attempt to investigate this, you would just find yourself outside of the town with no clear leads on the source. with no distinct source or direction, it's almost if it's simply the wind playing pranks on you, isn't it.

except, there is no wind. today is just as hot as it usually is in Port Perplex. if you're unlucky, you might still find one of those memory-revealing puddles lingering in an alleyway, but otherwise you're probably enjoying a day off or stuck doing work.

in addition, it seems that someone in particular is looking to meet you, too...]

What: A mingle in which it's rainy all day...

[you may or may not have been involved in that labyrinth earlier! you might be a newcomer! regardless, it's an odd day in Port Perplex; you see, it's raining. nothing too heavy, just a constant, steady drizzle. if you drop by the Weapon's n More Shop, you'll be able to buy from a large selection of umbrellas—just watch out for any that might have holes. on the other hand, if you wanna feel creative, the Flower Shop is selling giant leaf/clover/flower umbrellas of different kinds, too—you'll be paying top dollar for those, though.

throughout the day you might come across puddles, which is natural... but these puddles are a strange anomaly—when you walk by them, you'll witness a moment from your past being reflected from this puddle, on show for anyone who might pass by and witness it. it could have been something that happened just this morning, something that happened yesterday, something that happened years ago... it doesn't seem picky.

but thanks to this rain—or maybe the labyrinth—the curious will find many plants sprouting from the now fertile, and no longer cracked, soil of Tier 2. it's hard to say what they'll become, but they're currently small, cute and green!

so... what are you up today? the usual? arriving? avoiding puddles? searching for every one of these little sprouts?]

[you somehow land into this labyrinth with a hard thud, sending clouds of dust flying everywhere. what you're in now is a stone room that has a flickering torch placed on each wall. it smells a bit dingy in here, like what one might picture an actual labyrinth or dungeon to smell like.

there doesn't actually seem to be much worth investigating in this room, aside from a sign and three old, wooden doors before you. the sign reads:

"If you risk it all, you gain it all. If you risk nothing, you gain nothing."

somehow, very inexplicably so, you get the strange sense that the riskier you play, the better the prize.]

[Today there is no labyrinth, and many of you may be taking this chance to explore the town some more, enjoying the new lake, or simply settling in for a nap on one of the new grassy patches of tier 2 (though you may find that there's some competition for the especially green and comfy patch). It's certainly is nice to have a day off, isn't it?]

Where: ANYWHERE REALLY
What: Mingle with some lake-centric festivities!

[sometime after you escape that labyrinth and enter town, you might overhear some of the townsfolk gossiping amongst one another:]

Didja see? The lake's fulla water again!

Why, no, I didn't see, it's not like I take a walk to the empty shell of my father's childhood like you do every freakin' day.

I wanna catch a fish and name it Bowie!

[if you do go to the lake, you'll find that the gossip is all true: the large lake is actually a lake again, seemingly being filled with the waterfalls coming from the three rivers above. investigate further and you'll see little round fish covered with spikes, like a porcupine, bouncing in and out of the water as they swim. in reality, the spikes are dull and very soft—almost rubbery—so even if you touched one of these it wouldn't actually hurt. maybe this is what's giving the weird little guys the bounce

throughout the day, townsfolk have banners, balloons, and tents set up around the lake for this occasion. one independent tent is offering a small amount of $$$ to anyone who can catch some of these bouncy fish. in addition, they're offering a plate of this fried fish for a single coin; try a taste and you'll find that it tastes a lot like... rubbery garlic chicken! the other tents belong to the business/establishments you've seen through town:

• the weapon shop is selling all kinds of nets, fishing rods, and even pikes, for those who want to try and catch the fish
• the garrison and clinic are cooperating to perform a duty equivalent to lifeguards
• the library has a tent with fish-themed books; fish cookbooks, romance novels involving fish, picture books depicting fish, etc etc
• the bakery is offering a wide variety of fish-themed sweets and iced coffees
• the tailor's also has a changing tent and is selling visors, swimsuits, and other summery accessories
• the flower shop is selling fish bowls in a wide variety of sizes and styles and dahlias in many sizes and colors

maybe at some point today you're stuck working at one of these tents—or maybe you don't have to work at all today. whether you choose to engage with this event or continue doing your own thing, it's your day to spend as you see fit, and these festivities will be going on well into the evening!]

((OOC: trying a thing with ALL DAY MINGLES! if you're worried that this kind of limits what your character might be doing since this encompasses all day, a thing you can do, that we've seen some players already do, is provide multiple interaction options, which would be opportune here!

ETA: though the method of accessing tier 2, where the lake is located, is a staircase, there is IN FACT a convenient magical button that you can press to briefly make it into a flat, wheelchair accessible slope! this will be added to the info page soon enough, along with all of the other changes.))
