[sometime after you escape that labyrinth and enter town, you might overhear some of the townsfolk gossiping amongst one another:]

Didja see? The lake's fulla water again!

Why, no, I didn't see, it's not like I take a walk to the empty shell of my father's childhood like you do every freakin' day.

I wanna catch a fish and name it Bowie!

[if you do go to the lake, you'll find that the gossip is all true: the large lake is actually a lake again, seemingly being filled with the waterfalls coming from the three rivers above. investigate further and you'll see little round fish covered with spikes, like a porcupine, bouncing in and out of the water as they swim. in reality, the spikes are dull and very soft—almost rubbery—so even if you touched one of these it wouldn't actually hurt. maybe this is what's giving the weird little guys the bounce

throughout the day, townsfolk have banners, balloons, and tents set up around the lake for this occasion. one independent tent is offering a small amount of $$$ to anyone who can catch some of these bouncy fish. in addition, they're offering a plate of this fried fish for a single coin; try a taste and you'll find that it tastes a lot like... rubbery garlic chicken! the other tents belong to the business/establishments you've seen through town:

• the weapon shop is selling all kinds of nets, fishing rods, and even pikes, for those who want to try and catch the fish
• the garrison and clinic are cooperating to perform a duty equivalent to lifeguards
• the library has a tent with fish-themed books; fish cookbooks, romance novels involving fish, picture books depicting fish, etc etc
• the bakery is offering a wide variety of fish-themed sweets and iced coffees
• the tailor's also has a changing tent and is selling visors, swimsuits, and other summery accessories
• the flower shop is selling fish bowls in a wide variety of sizes and styles and dahlias in many sizes and colors

maybe at some point today you're stuck working at one of these tents—or maybe you don't have to work at all today. whether you choose to engage with this event or continue doing your own thing, it's your day to spend as you see fit, and these festivities will be going on well into the evening!]

((OOC: trying a thing with ALL DAY MINGLES! if you're worried that this kind of limits what your character might be doing since this encompasses all day, a thing you can do, that we've seen some players already do, is provide multiple interaction options, which would be opportune here!

ETA: though the method of accessing tier 2, where the lake is located, is a staircase, there is IN FACT a convenient magical button that you can press to briefly make it into a flat, wheelchair accessible slope! this will be added to the info page soon enough, along with all of the other changes.))

[As Barakiel both lacks the ability to smile on demand and make iced coffees for thirsty townsfolk, he has been consigned to grunt work. That's right, he's standing around the middle of the impromptu fair, wearing a sandwich board

The board has a very cute painting on it pointing towards the bakery booth. The enormous cupcake-shaped hat on Barakiel's is also cute, if one is fond of cupcakes topped with paper-cut-out fish.]

Fish sweets... Fish sweets... Fish coffee... I mean, fresh coffee. No fish in the coffee, I promise.

[At some point Barakiel has been freed from the tyranny of the sandwich board and cupcake hat. He's spending his break at the lake edge, smoking contemplatively and watching the fish do their fish thing.]

[Suddenly a (red) Chaika leaps into the lake and starts viciously stabbing at the water—or, no, the fish, she's trying to stab at the fish. There's lots and lots of angry, yet tired, stabbing... along with lots and lots of pointless splashing very close to him]

[After finishing the labyrinth, Togo cleaned up and hauled butt to the bakery. Fish sweets? For a Japanese girl that mean one thing - taiyaki, fish-shaped pastries filled with different sweet things: red bean (azuki) paste, custard, or chocolate, for today. In honor of the labyrinth, they are modeled after the fish from the water cavern. Togo sits outside the bakery tent, a tray of still-warm taiyaki on her lap, an apron and hat on her as she smiles.]

[After her work is done, Togo takes advantage of the new ramp and moves down it, just to get a closer look at it. She has one of the taiyaki she didn't manage to sell in her hands, munching on it once she's at the right level. She seems to be just... appreciating the view.]

[Chaika, soaked to the bone and clutching a Big Pointy Stick, strolls by the tent... then stops. That's fish, but... it's not real fish, is it? Was it baked?? Wait, is this fish actually called taiyaki?? On second thought, it doesn't look like the fish in the lake. What is up with this fish? ...she has no idea what it really is, is what I'm saying here. She scrunches her brow and just sticks a finger at the taiyaki.]

[Barakiel, another bakery worker, is also taking a (smoke) break by the lake. He remembers seeing Togo around, though he's spent most of the day on sandwich board duty, helping advertise the bakery stall.

He should...probably say hi...? That's a thing that humans do with people they sort of work with, right.]

[He really did not sign up to be a lifeguard, thank you very much. With the clinic/garrison cooperatively aiding swimmers and fish-catching hopefuls today, Rideaux has managed to pull a duty that keeps him away from the water's edge. There's a little pavilion set up near the shore, staffed by various medics offering assistance.

So! If you sustain any fish-related injuries (or have any other problems that need attention), Rideaux is here for you! Or if you, like, just wanna stop on by for a friendly chat, that's fine too! He looks bored. And I'm sure he'll be happy for the company. cough.]

[surely he doesn't want this red girl's company. she's been angrily stabbing at the water for some time now with a pointy stick, making all sorts of a ruckus. upon noticing him she just makes... a sort of confused face. and eventually approaches—just to get out of the lake, of course.]

[ Archer doesn't look particularly thrilled to be hawking weapons out of a tent by the lake, but he seems to have resigned himself to his fate.

He's busy arranging the items, occasionally muttering direly to himself. ]

Fishing rods are not "weapons" unless your enemy is a trout.

( afternoon )
[ Every so often, when the coast is clear, there's a small shower of arrows, which cleanly pierce several of the strange fish.

Shortly thereafter, Archer makes his way over and plucks the skewered fish out of the water, totally unfazed by the ridiculousness of what he just did. Who said he had to play fair? ]

[That afternoon, Chaika notices the arrow shower. She's torn between being offended that he can get fish this easily... and also being impressed—but MOSTLY offended, thank you very much! Of course she stomps up to him, demanding an explanation (presumably.)]

[Kratos has not been focused enough to attend as a proper lifeguard, but he's been performing a roving patrol to keep an eye out for anyone who happened to get into trouble.
