[Having arrived here, Lightning is more than happy stepping off of the boat. She and vehicles tend not to mix. Her companion, a rather large, white chocobo looks in worse shape than she does.

She is still picking confetti out of her hair as she walks the streets. Light is all up for exploring her new surroundings. How else to get things done?]

[it's hard to say how you wound up in the thickest part of the forest, in an area where you can no longer see by moonlight. something deep inside had inexplicably urged you to come out here. you think you might have heard crying, but you don't hear it anymore. you hear nothing.

it's dead quiet.]

((WARNING: death is a big theme here; it's not that your character is likely to die, but the subject of death itself is approached and addressed head-on.)

((HANDWAVE OPTION: this small exploradora will run from the 13th to the 16th; on the very last day, i will toss up a HANDWAVE option for those who still had a ways to go before finishing, or did not play in it at all. that said, the handwave option will not only allow you to say your character went through this labyrinth, but you will also get a prize as well.))

What: an arrival.

[ That sure is a new arrival stepping off the boat... she looks just a little bit frazzled, somehow? Definitely frazzled, like she's been through some pretty rough stuff, and that confetti and cheering is more than a little bit overwhelming...

Anyway, she can be found pretty much anywhere once she steps off the boat. Though she's tired, she's still interested in the town. And the people, of course. ]

[The rain puddles from the day before have mostly dried up and the streets should be safe to walk once again...though one must be careful around the edges of town as monsters are lurking just beyond the town's boundary...]

[Still, they don't seem to be much of an issue, and those of you with common sense and no monster-hunting job requirements are likely staying in]

(ooc: We haven't had a monster post in a long time so if anyone wants a brief monster encounter and mentions it in their comment, I can arrange for a super short and easy encounter for you. ♥)

What: A mingle in which you hear a weird sound, but otherwise nothing new

[you can hear a whistling in the distance... sometimes it's almost a howl. however, if you attempt to investigate this, you would just find yourself outside of the town with no clear leads on the source. with no distinct source or direction, it's almost if it's simply the wind playing pranks on you, isn't it.

except, there is no wind. today is just as hot as it usually is in Port Perplex. if you're unlucky, you might still find one of those memory-revealing puddles lingering in an alleyway, but otherwise you're probably enjoying a day off or stuck doing work.

in addition, it seems that someone in particular is looking to meet you, too...]

What: vomit. VOMIT EVERYWHERE because some people are no good at boats.

[ Some people like Sam, who have never set foot on a boat let alone been on one over water. The rocking motion had been bad enough, but that combined with the salty brine of the sea and the sound of waves (why, why did there have to be so much water??) just totally wrecks him.

The moment the plank's set down and the confetti starts and the cheering begins Sam...runs past everyone else in the crowd, finds the nearest barrel or other trash-looking receptical....and throws up. Like, a lot. His breakfast, his lunch, even his dinner from the night previous.

And when he lifts his head he is just all sorts of green in the face, pale and sweating. Sam takes it back, he wants to go back to the end of the world. He doesn't want to see this muh open water ever again. ]

What: An intro! A rainy intro...

[ A bit of rain doesn't stop new arrivals, apparently. Though the whole tossing confetti thing is probably not going so well given the rain but whatever, new people yay. ]

[ This particular set of arrivals are all wearing identical outfits and look ready for business. A couple of of them look to have rifles even. ]

See? Now this is a welcome. Why didn't this place pick us up first? I've even got all my clothes on and everything.

Where: Anywhere in or around Port Perplex
What: A mingle in which it's rainy all day...

[you may or may not have been involved in that labyrinth earlier! you might be a newcomer! regardless, it's an odd day in Port Perplex; you see, it's raining. nothing too heavy, just a constant, steady drizzle. if you drop by the Weapon's n More Shop, you'll be able to buy from a large selection of umbrellas—just watch out for any that might have holes. on the other hand, if you wanna feel creative, the Flower Shop is selling giant leaf/clover/flower umbrellas of different kinds, too—you'll be paying top dollar for those, though.

throughout the day you might come across puddles, which is natural... but these puddles are a strange anomaly—when you walk by them, you'll witness a moment from your past being reflected from this puddle, on show for anyone who might pass by and witness it. it could have been something that happened just this morning, something that happened yesterday, something that happened years ago... it doesn't seem picky.

but thanks to this rain—or maybe the labyrinth—the curious will find many plants sprouting from the now fertile, and no longer cracked, soil of Tier 2. it's hard to say what they'll become, but they're currently small, cute and green!

so... what are you up today? the usual? arriving? avoiding puddles? searching for every one of these little sprouts?]

((THE PUDDLES: if characters stomp/run through them, the scene will stop! ...but the character who ran through it will now experience the feeling that the memory-owner felt in that very depiction—the memory-owner can also run/stomp their own puddle and relive those feelings. if that's not your cup of tea, though, you can play with it however you want!))

What: A daring labyrinth

[you somehow land into this labyrinth with a hard thud, sending clouds of dust flying everywhere. what you're in now is a stone room that has a flickering torch placed on each wall. it smells a bit dingy in here, like what one might picture an actual labyrinth or dungeon to smell like.

there doesn't actually seem to be much worth investigating in this room, aside from a sign and three old, wooden doors before you. the sign reads:

"If you risk it all, you gain it all. If you risk nothing, you gain nothing."

somehow, very inexplicably so, you get the strange sense that the riskier you play, the better the prize.]

[Today there is no labyrinth, and many of you may be taking this chance to explore the town some more, enjoying the new lake, or simply settling in for a nap on one of the new grassy patches of tier 2 (though you may find that there's some competition for the especially green and comfy patch). It's certainly is nice to have a day off, isn't it?]

Where: ANYWHERE REALLY
What: Mingle with some lake-centric festivities!

[sometime after you escape that labyrinth and enter town, you might overhear some of the townsfolk gossiping amongst one another:]

Didja see? The lake's fulla water again!

Why, no, I didn't see, it's not like I take a walk to the empty shell of my father's childhood like you do every freakin' day.

I wanna catch a fish and name it Bowie!

[if you do go to the lake, you'll find that the gossip is all true: the large lake is actually a lake again, seemingly being filled with the waterfalls coming from the three rivers above. investigate further and you'll see little round fish covered with spikes, like a porcupine, bouncing in and out of the water as they swim. in reality, the spikes are dull and very soft—almost rubbery—so even if you touched one of these it wouldn't actually hurt. maybe this is what's giving the weird little guys the bounce

throughout the day, townsfolk have banners, balloons, and tents set up around the lake for this occasion. one independent tent is offering a small amount of $$$ to anyone who can catch some of these bouncy fish. in addition, they're offering a plate of this fried fish for a single coin; try a taste and you'll find that it tastes a lot like... rubbery garlic chicken! the other tents belong to the business/establishments you've seen through town:

• the weapon shop is selling all kinds of nets, fishing rods, and even pikes, for those who want to try and catch the fish
• the garrison and clinic are cooperating to perform a duty equivalent to lifeguards
• the library has a tent with fish-themed books; fish cookbooks, romance novels involving fish, picture books depicting fish, etc etc
• the bakery is offering a wide variety of fish-themed sweets and iced coffees
• the tailor's also has a changing tent and is selling visors, swimsuits, and other summery accessories
• the flower shop is selling fish bowls in a wide variety of sizes and styles and dahlias in many sizes and colors

maybe at some point today you're stuck working at one of these tents—or maybe you don't have to work at all today. whether you choose to engage with this event or continue doing your own thing, it's your day to spend as you see fit, and these festivities will be going on well into the evening!]

((OOC: trying a thing with ALL DAY MINGLES! if you're worried that this kind of limits what your character might be doing since this encompasses all day, a thing you can do, that we've seen some players already do, is provide multiple interaction options, which would be opportune here!

ETA: though the method of accessing tier 2, where the lake is located, is a staircase, there is IN FACT a convenient magical button that you can press to briefly make it into a flat, wheelchair accessible slope! this will be added to the info page soon enough, along with all of the other changes.))

What: An experimental labyrinth is open...

[The horn sounds again (so soon) and those that choose to follow the sound find themselves standing before...a door? Or a wireframe of a door to be more precise, though only those who have some vague knowledge of the concept of 3D modeling would recognize that that's what it is. Everyone else is simply left to wonder why there seems to be a door comprised only of lines.]

What: NIGHT MINGLE with optional sound investigation and/or maybe monsters

[whether you're making a late-night return from the labyrinth with the goods, or you weren't there in the first place, it's now nighttime! it's cooler, the full moon looks like a normal moon (ymmv on normal ofc), and there are stars twinkling, forming unknown constellations.

...also there is this constant trickling sound—like someone left the faucet on—heard from just about anywhere. if you focus on it, you can conclude that it's coming from the second tier. thankfully, once you're inside a building, you barely hear it.

and that's not all: there are monsters out and about—cute ones, weird ones, menacing ones... it's absolutely possible to get back to the inn without encountering any trouble, but there's always the chance that you might come across something that creeps in the night.

so what are you up to? trying to get back to the inn? dealing with a monster? investigating that faucet sound? or maybe you're already back at the inn, chilling in the tavern, getting your room together, or trying to sleep. know what, maybe you're doing something i haven't listed, who am i to tell you what to do with your life, huh?!?!]

[someone wearing a trench coat, a baseball cap, thick coke-bottle glasses, and knee-high polka-dotted rainboots, approaches you. sketchy, right? also horrendous, i mean, you can't make this outfit look good.

maybe you were still getting a feel for the town, or you're getting a knock on your door at the inn, or maybe you're not even IN town when this person finds you! it's hard to make out who they are from their ridiculous disguise, but their enlarged eyes (thanks to the coke-bottle glasses) seem to familiarly reflect galaxies...]

Well, well. We—I have been looking forward to getting a proper one-on-one with you! The council was a struggle to escape, but I hope they'll let bygones be bygones when they've figured out my trick. It's not like this is the first time!

What: You have arrived to the kingdom!

[you weren't sailing that treacherous sea for long--in fact, the ride seemed surprisingly swift, if not potentially sickening. but here you are now, standing in the port of Port Perplex, unloading yourself and your belongings as the old ship sounds its obnoxious horn for the seventh time. and, well, come to think of it, you're not the ONLY one getting off the ship!

on land, you and the others are bombarded by a crowd of cheering townsfolk! they throw confetti over you, try to drape flower neklaces around your neck, and also blast horns PROBABLY RIGHT IN YOUR EAR, ow.]

"Who are these people? Oh... OH! They're here to help us!"

"Thank you! Thank you!"

"Please, have some petals. You like petals, yes?"

"IS MY HORN TOO LOUD FOR YA? WHAT? WHAT DIDJA SAY?"


[...anyway, it doesn't take long for them to disperse and leave you be, assuming you aren't getting caught up in their antics. should you explore further into the town, past the harbor, you'll find that the colorful town looks like it's on the brink of a festival--banners, streamers, bunting, balloons... they're everywhere! is it because of you? one might wonder, but you'll come to find that the town will always look like this from here on out. on the contrary, the beach/cliff area surrounding this little town leaves a LOT to be desired.

the Queen said you'd get a room of your own at the inn if you got a part-time job. well, the Dolph-Inn's visible in the distance. in an act of kindness, the innkeeper will gladly allow you to keep any of your stuff in a room until you get a job! however, should you return jobless by nightfall, the innkeeper will just as gladly toss your belongings onto the street and shove a cardboard box into your arms. yikes.
