What: A daring labyrinth

[you somehow land into this labyrinth with a hard thud, sending clouds of dust flying everywhere. what you're in now is a stone room that has a flickering torch placed on each wall. it smells a bit dingy in here, like what one might picture an actual labyrinth or dungeon to smell like.

there doesn't actually seem to be much worth investigating in this room, aside from a sign and three old, wooden doors before you. the sign reads:

"If you risk it all, you gain it all. If you risk nothing, you gain nothing."

somehow, very inexplicably so, you get the strange sense that the riskier you play, the better the prize.]

[it's dark in this tunnel; the baby is sniffling as though it wants to cry

the room you wind up in is very dim; the light source is unclear. there's a large door on the opposite wall of this room from where you now stand, thought it looks like it has a lock. there's a large stand that resembles a podium in the middle of this room, surrounded by people wearing black cloaks who are presumably in silent prayer. these cloak-wearing folk remain perfectly still, unaware of your presence.]

[suddenly a gruff voice calls out:

"Place the sacrifice."

each cloaked figure turns to face you with unseen faces]

[the owner of the voice takes a raspy breath—perhaps they're old

"Your insolence will be punished if you do not place the sacrifice."

all eyes are still on you]

[the one cloaked figure draws closer to you.

"Do you know what will happen if you fail to comply to our god? This affects not us... but you, as well, you fool."]

No, I don't know. Calling someone a fool when nothing's been explained to them is the weakest kind of insult.

[there's murmuring amongst the crowd—the figure comes to a stop, hesitating.

"That infant you carry will endanger us by the time it's full-grown. It's for the best that we remove it quickly."]

[they all collectively gasp.

"You cannot possibly. We cannot—no, our god cannot allow this...!"

in turn, the crowd all murmur in agreement. the figure who had been approaching you and has been addressing you, unveils a tall, wooden staff that holds an amber marble at the tip. this figure isn't taking any immediate action yet, but they grasp it firmly, angrily... perhaps fearfully.]

[the figure takes in another harsh breath.

"That just isn't enough. It seems that... we will have to do things our way."

they tap the the butt of the wooden staff on the ground, sending surges of invisible pressure across the ground. you can hear something crumbling in the distance, but nothing is happening inside this room... not yet, at least. the baby starts to whimper.]

[readies a spell, drawing his hand through the air, but not casting yet]

You're upsetting the baby.

["And you are upsetting our god," the figure retorts.

and it's with this that a fifteen-foot tall dragon crashes into the room from the rear wall. rubble lies where the wall once was, and the cloaked figures kneel before this newcomer. however, it doesn't seem like this dragon cares much about them—it's peering around, snorting and sniffing.]

[you're met with a really awkward silence.

"...my god, just take your sacrifice. Please."

with that, the figures all move out of the way so the dragon—with it's long legs, stout body, and oddly pig-like tail—can charge straight towards you.]

the now singed and crispy dragon, (leaving the cloaked-figures aghast), flat-out lunges itself at you in a futile struggle to succeed at SOMETHING in its life]

[you escape through this giant hole in the wall, which leads you into a long corridor. every step you might take echoes, and the baby seems quite amused by this.

being as this is a corridor, you have two options: left, towards a rumbling sound, or right, towards the fresh smell of laundry.]
