When: Day 5, bright and early in the morning
Where: Labyrinth!
What: A daring labyrinth

[you somehow land into this labyrinth with a hard thud, sending clouds of dust flying everywhere. what you're in now is a stone room that has a flickering torch placed on each wall. it smells a bit dingy in here, like what one might picture an actual labyrinth or dungeon to smell like.

there doesn't actually seem to be much worth investigating in this room, aside from a sign and three old, wooden doors before you. the sign reads:

"If you risk it all, you gain it all. If you risk nothing, you gain nothing."

somehow, very inexplicably so, you get the strange sense that the riskier you play, the better the prize.]

["It's okay. They should have been by now. No use getting a stranger caught up in their antics. Why, you haven't even eaten your pie yet!"

...is that a swirl of smoke in the background?]

No, I insist! It is the least I could do for allowing me to partake in this pie.

[ and... trying to look around her to see where the smoke is coming from ]

[it's coming from the direction of oven, too. in an oddly convenient coincidence, the woman cocks her head to the side in confusion? thought? well, no matter, you can see the fire above the oven now.]

"A pie you haven't eaten? Either way, your offer is very heroic. I would only be able to repay you in pies! And perhaps rugs! I'm so good at making those, too!"]

Just by feasting with my eyes, I can tell that this is the only fitting thing to offer! Let my venture and the return of your family be my only reward!

[ can he tell what's on fire? ]

[the woman smiles and taps her chin thoughtfully.

"Maybe once you see one of the rugs, it'll change your mind. I weave them in plastic, yarn, thick cloth, vine, fish, corn husks..."

she ventures towards the other side of the room as she rattles off her list of rug-weaving materials.

meanwhile, there doesn't seem to be anything in or on the oven that would hint towards the cause of this smoke, but once the woman moves aside you can see the flames, the beginnings of dark smoke, and the oven door slowly cracking open all on its own.]

[ paying more attention to the oven, shifting into a ready position should he need to ]

[an inhuman hand, one with lengthy, black-tipped claws, sticks out of the oven and touches the floor, turning the tile jet-black. now knowing it has something to settle onto, this demonic creature begins pulling itself out of the oven, turning any part of the floor it touches black.]

[ gripping his sword ]

M'am, I suggest you move away from the oven...

[she looks confused, turning her face towards him. "I beg your pardon?"

the demonic creature, smelling strongly of ash, knows better, though. it suddenly lunges at you, its clawed hands outstretched in an attempt to grab you]

RADIANT DAWN!!

[ Quickly pulls out his sword and slashes as the hands in an upward swing ]

[its hands are sent flying with ease, dust—no, ash—spewing everywhere. however, unless your sword is enchanted or the like, the contact with this creature might cause it to become jet black.

the creature stumbles, having lost its balance, and makes an abrupt attempt to headbutt you]

[ does becoming jet black mean anything asides from, you know, getting a cool new paint job?

but he's going to jump to the side to avoid the headbutt ]

[mostly a cool paint job, but your sword might feel a little heavier than before if you were comfortable and familiar with its former weight

the creature winds up charging its head into the counter, breaking through the wood and wedging its head in there good. now it's stuck like that, frantically trying to swing at something, grab at anything, with its stubbed arms.]

HAND... HUNGERS...!

[ he's going to try to take advantage of the creature being stuck and deliver ONE FINAL ATTACK. the additional weight of the sword throws him off, so he's going to be swinging the sword slower BUT HE'S NOT DETERRED!! ]

[your FINAL ATTACK!! finishes this demonic creature off once and for all. following the blow, it screams and wails as it dissipates into ash, pieces of tar, and other indiscernible burnt things that pile up where it previously was. the floor itself is black now, and the majority of the counters are black, too.]

[the piles puffs a bit of smoke.

meanwhile, the woman from before stands a ways back, watching with a thoughtful expression.

"That... explains the missing pies. You certainly proved yourself to be a fighter, that's for sure. A talented one!"]

As the scion of two legendary heroes from my world, such skill is only natural!

[she pauses.

"I don't even know what a scion is... Oh! I think we have a type of vehicle called scion, is that it?"]

Ah, a scion is essentially the child of who are talking about.

[she still seems confused—

and then a crowd of skeletons crash land in the kitchen—they must have had trouble with the spiral stairs. they're covered in slop, mud, moss... and they're all missing body parts or shattered apart in places. but the one that seems most fully intact points a finger at you.

"It's you!!"]

Hello, is it me, you're looking for?

["Yes!" the skeleton pulls one of its comrade's arms off and uses THAT to point at you with. "Yes, it is! You bastard, we're hurt because of what you did to us back there!"]

Perhaps you shouldn't have attempted to drag me under with you into the dank depths of the bog!
