When: Day 5, bright and early in the morning
Where: Labyrinth!
What: A daring labyrinth

[you somehow land into this labyrinth with a hard thud, sending clouds of dust flying everywhere. what you're in now is a stone room that has a flickering torch placed on each wall. it smells a bit dingy in here, like what one might picture an actual labyrinth or dungeon to smell like.

there doesn't actually seem to be much worth investigating in this room, aside from a sign and three old, wooden doors before you. the sign reads:

"If you risk it all, you gain it all. If you risk nothing, you gain nothing."

somehow, very inexplicably so, you get the strange sense that the riskier you play, the better the prize.]

[your FINAL ATTACK!! finishes this demonic creature off once and for all. following the blow, it screams and wails as it dissipates into ash, pieces of tar, and other indiscernible burnt things that pile up where it previously was. the floor itself is black now, and the majority of the counters are black, too.]

[the piles puffs a bit of smoke.

meanwhile, the woman from before stands a ways back, watching with a thoughtful expression.

"That... explains the missing pies. You certainly proved yourself to be a fighter, that's for sure. A talented one!"]

As the scion of two legendary heroes from my world, such skill is only natural!

[she pauses.

"I don't even know what a scion is... Oh! I think we have a type of vehicle called scion, is that it?"]

Ah, a scion is essentially the child of who are talking about.

[she still seems confused—

and then a crowd of skeletons crash land in the kitchen—they must have had trouble with the spiral stairs. they're covered in slop, mud, moss... and they're all missing body parts or shattered apart in places. but the one that seems most fully intact points a finger at you.

"It's you!!"]

Hello, is it me, you're looking for?

["Yes!" the skeleton pulls one of its comrade's arms off and uses THAT to point at you with. "Yes, it is! You bastard, we're hurt because of what you did to us back there!"]

Perhaps you shouldn't have attempted to drag me under with you into the dank depths of the bog!

["Well—well maybe you should have helped us!"

another skeleton with a missing arm retorts, "He was helping me and you grabbed his ankle... You were all creepy up in there..."

the main skeleton shoves them aside, still looking at you and probably talking to you.

"Yeah, well—it's not fair!"]

If you truly needed aid, then I apologize, however your comrade speaks true! No matter my own opinions on those who have risen from beyond, as one who aspires to be a legendary hero, I would lend a hand [ RIMSHOT ] to anyone who needed it.

[they're quietly staring at you. are they surprised by your brave response? are they offended by that horrible joke? they're just skeletons, they don't have facial expressions.]

[ stares right back, holding his ground.

TERRIBLE JOKE ASIDE, he is 100% serious about his response ]

[the silence grows awkward. the one skeleton, the main one who has been doing most of the yelling, rubs its arm.

"Er... I guess... We might have jumped some guns there—okay, I definitely did, maybe not the others. You don't seem too bad. I mean, whatever you did back there got us out of that mud trap anyway... So... sorry. And, thanks, wannabe-hero-guy-who-makes-bad-jokes-that-I-don't-appreciate... but I'll let that slide."

the other skeletons just shake their head in the background, disapproving of their speaker's last sentence. but what can they do.]

I... er... appreciate it.

And my name is Owain.

["Owain, huh." the skeleton pops its jaw, then pops it again. "Doesn't sound like a hero's name, if you ask me."]

It is the name placed upon me by my mother! Any name she would have given me would have been one fit for any hero!

["Well I—"

that same skeleton from before cuts them off again to address you before it can.

"Don't listen to Ma. She named me Horris. Your mother sounds like she actually knew what she was doing."]

[ offers a smile ]

My mother knew many things.

[the skeleton named Horris continues, intrigued.

"Did she know you'd want to become a hero?"]

[ lets out a smile ]

Ah, well, she does now

["Really? Aww. Can you tell me what it takes to become a hero?"

Horris leans forward. meanwhile, the skeleton referred to as Ma starts tapping her foot... not that any of the skeletons care about that development at all at this point.]

Ah, yes, I am more than willing to share my expertise when it comes to becoming a hero worthy of legend!

[you know what, this conversation can totally go on for a while. Horris is ~all ears~ because he loves heroes, HE IS PUMPED!

but eventually the woman from before, the one who this kitchen belongs to, interrupts.

"Excuse me... I've been wondering for a while. Scion—Owain, was it? Do you know these people?"]
