When: Day 5, bright and early in the morning
Where: Labyrinth!
What: A daring labyrinth

[you somehow land into this labyrinth with a hard thud, sending clouds of dust flying everywhere. what you're in now is a stone room that has a flickering torch placed on each wall. it smells a bit dingy in here, like what one might picture an actual labyrinth or dungeon to smell like.

there doesn't actually seem to be much worth investigating in this room, aside from a sign and three old, wooden doors before you. the sign reads:

"If you risk it all, you gain it all. If you risk nothing, you gain nothing."

somehow, very inexplicably so, you get the strange sense that the riskier you play, the better the prize.]

the holes seem to be large tunnels that a person could jump into. the grave markers behind these holes can be read from here.

the left grave marker reads "ashes to ashes"

the middle grave marker reads "bud to bud"

the right grave marker reads "wall to wall"

Jewel doesn't seem amused, trying to cross its fins. ps it can't cross its fins.]

I'm quite glad to hear that you think I show some intelligent. It would make this task quite difficult if I wasn't.

[leaning down to get a closer look at "ashes to ashes"...]

I assume these graves are where the undead have come from?

[Jewel nods in agreement—yes, it would make it difficult!

as for the hole, it's impossible to see where the darkness ; however, you can catch a faint scent of something burning.

"They can come from these holes, but it is not where they come from. I think these were set up as jokes. Rather than create graves for everyone they slaughtered, they created this... mockup of a grave utilized as a tunnel system, which probably leads to other parts of the land, parts that they definitely control. It's upsetting."]

Would it be possible to seal them in the tunnels?

["I don't think so. I wish they lived underground, but they don't. I think... it might be easier to approach them directly."

Jewel seems to be specifically peering down the 'ashes to ashes' hole now.]

[...placing his hand over his sword.]

Shall I escort you down there?

["If you did that, I would be grateful."

Jewel approaches the hole,

lifts a foot,

waits,

then puts... the foot down.

Jewel turns to face you.

"You go first."]

[JUMPING DOWN INTO THE HOLE!]

[down you go, with Jewel following shortly after you! as you fall, that burning smell grows stronger and stronger...

mere seconds later you land upright, on your feet, as though you've simply stepped into the room.

this room is narrow, and it feels like everything around you is moving. fortunately there's a small window in front of you, depicting the scenery as it passes by.

you're in the car of a moving train.

in this particular car are many, many crates. each crate the same label (an odd skull with FD below it, like a logo rather than a warning,) indicating that they may all contain the same things.

to your left is a door leading towards a car seating skeletons.

to your right is a door leading towards a car that contains more crates.]

[raising a brow and watching the left door...before cautiously moving towards the right, never taking his eyes off the skeletons.]

[thankfully, the skeletons are preoccupied with themselves. Jewel follows you into the room on the right.

upon stepping into this room, you can hear murmurs.

there are crates, but upon observation, not as many as the room you were just in—after all, they're much larger. atop these crates are various forms of luggage, coming in suitcases, pouches, etc.

the door on the left leads to the room you were previously in—the one you started in.

the door on the right leads to the end of the train, where you could step out and overlook the scenery from a balcony-like fixture.]

[going to immediately start rummaging through the luggage, speaking quietly to Jewel:]

If we're unable to carry out our original plan, we may at least be able to at least take valuables of theirs and throw them off the train. It wouldn't be much, but it would at least hinder them in some way.

[Jewel is caught off guard by the sudden increase in murmurs that take place after you speak. eventually it responds in an uncertain, but inquiring, tone.

"Is that all revenge amounts to? I was thinking we could derail the train, or slaughter everyone on-board... or just wait and see where it leads and take it from there, but I think that would be a risk for me since I'm obviously not their kind."

in the luggage you find various things, mostly mundane items like toothbrushes, jewelry, clothing. things normal people would bring along with them on a trip.

one container that inexplicably stands out is one that looks like a container of hair gel, but reads "APPLICATION ADHESIVE." on this bottle is a picture of a person applying the supposed contents like a body cream.]

...It would have been a revenge if these were more important items but that doesn't seem to be the case.

[eyeing the adhesive though]

Poisoning this may accomplish something, though I think your idea of derailing the train would be best.

[the murmurs from before eventually stop.

Jewel scrunches its face as it looks over that... adhesive.

"I was hoping to find poison... I think derailing the train is the best idea."

and after saying that, Jewel looks up at you expectantly.]

[...looking down at Jewel...then holds a hand out to it.]

We'd need to get to the front of the train then, and that means hiding your presence while we move. Do you mind hiding until my tabard while I move past them?

[Jewel rapidly nods.

"That is completely fine. I think they won't pay any attention to you."

Jewel tries offering its fins, but, well, tiny fins. instead it just eagerly waits for you to pick it up.]

[carefully picking Jewel up and carefully stuffing it into his tabard...then starts walking towards the skeleton car looking COMPLETELY NATURAL...]

[with Jewel tucked away safely, you pass through the skeleton car with ease—the passengers are looking out the window, fumbling with books, and so forth. very normal passenger stuff.

but before you reach the door leading into the car next to the conductor's, an attendant of sorts calls out to you.

"Sir, is there a reason you're standing up from your seat?"]

[...so close. glancing around, then leaning in to speak very quietly.]

-- Yes, there is. An important reason, but I don't wish to cause a panic.

[the attendant seems concerned.

"What's wrong? Can I help you?"]

[he takes a moment more, to give the impression that he's considering the attendent's offer; then he nods]

I was off-duty for this trip, but I found evidence of there possibly being a...device in the back of this train. I was on my way to warn the conductor, but I need someone to stand by the door to the luggage car and watch for any suspicious characters attempting to go through. I need to ensure that the device is not touched under after we can ensure the safety of the passengers.

[the attendant gasps and casts a wary glance back at the luggage car's door. they lower their voice to a whisper, and, despite their previous alarm, they keep a level tone.

"You must be an officer. I understand now, sir. I'll keep guard of the door. Please, continue on your way."]

Thank you. Don't worry, I'll ensure that no tragedy occurs today.

[and after all that lying, I'm going to move on to the front car.]

[entry into the front car isn't difficult at all; the door's unlocked, nobody is casting you weird looks, and the attendant is standing at the luggage door because you're a good liar. it's all going well now.

the front car is small as it only contains the conductor—of course—and a very simple panel of levers, buttons, and the like. surely all to dictate the train's speeds and to announce things over the handy intercom system.

the conductor doesn't turn to look up at you, but they acknowledge your presence.

"There you are—did you bring me a drink?"]
