When: Day 5, bright and early in the morning
Where: Labyrinth!
What: A daring labyrinth

[you somehow land into this labyrinth with a hard thud, sending clouds of dust flying everywhere. what you're in now is a stone room that has a flickering torch placed on each wall. it smells a bit dingy in here, like what one might picture an actual labyrinth or dungeon to smell like.

there doesn't actually seem to be much worth investigating in this room, aside from a sign and three old, wooden doors before you. the sign reads:

"If you risk it all, you gain it all. If you risk nothing, you gain nothing."

somehow, very inexplicably so, you get the strange sense that the riskier you play, the better the prize.]

Well, yeah. We're here to help after all, so if someone needs help, I'm going to help them.

[Isn't that... obvious...?]

[it's not apparently! the confused guy tilts its head...

"We would be in your debt."]

No, don't worry about debts or anything, I'm just doing what I can!

[Let's just pretend I'm not super happy to be thanked, yes. Instead, let's focus on saving more skeleton people! Can we get them all out in time?]

[you can—in fact, this guy will help. in the end, you'll have rescued six skeleton people total, and they'll all be patiently waiting on you.

however, by the time this objective is completed, the room will be a bit... tighter than before, though nobody's currently at risk of being crushed or smushed just yet.]

[Then, one more glance around, and...]

Okay, is that everyone, then? Then, next, we need to evacuate, since the room's closing in, after all. Can all of you head up the vine? One at a time in an orderly fashion so nothing goes wrong. I'll go last, since I do have ways of dealing with this kind of thing.

[the skeletons just kind of look over each other and nod/shrug, like, yeah, sure. let's climb this thing.

they do (though the one shoves the other ahead, how bratty). as they begin climbing up this vine, which does hold their weight, the skeleton you first saved addresses you.

"Is this something you've experienced before?"]

Not exactly, but emergency protocol is something we get taught in school, and helping people in these kinds of situations is kind of my job, whether it's back home or over here.

["Interesting. Then, you are truly fit to lead us."

the skeleton you saved now begins climbing the vine, making them the last skeleton to ascend.

by this point the room definitely feels tight, but it looks like it's possible for everyone to escape as they are doing now]

Wait-- leader?! What---

[Wait, did someone seriously acknowledge me as a leader? Since when does that happen?!

Wait, I don't really have time for this. Time to follow them up. Well, this thing's a bit spiked, so this'll probably hurt a bit, but... Eh, it's not like that's unusual for me.]

[the prickly vine leads you and your skeleton army into a bright area. for a moment it's almost too bright—but here you are, having entered through a large hole in the floor; the vine is firmly attached to the edge of this hole.

you've entered an empty greenhouse. outside this greenhouse is a dying meadow, barren as though it has been overwhelmed by extreme weather. there is a door leading outside to this barren meadow.

scattered on the ground, however, are many indistinguishable seeds, though a closer look might allow you to discern any visible differences between each one. each planter in this greenhouse has an empty, but prepared, soil bed. at the plant preparing stand, which is a table containing small and large shovels, gloves, trimmers, and various filled watering cans, is a sign: "PLANT ANYTHING AND IT SHOULD GROW." there's a bloody hand smear across this sign.

furthermore, this greenhouse seems to have been a business—there's a cash register settled in one corner. off to the side of it is a large, burlap bag that's leaking a red fluid.]

[Oh, I actually have something useful for this situation!

Seed goggles that tell me what a seed will grow into, go!

...Shame they only work once, but let's check out one of those seeds with it.]

[if you'd like to pick which one, there are three different types of seed on the ground (with several of each):

• perfectly spherical seeds

• seeds with fine, light pink lines on them

• transparent seeds that oddly let you see completely through them

meanwhile, the six skeletons just wait on standby, looking at the ceiling, the floor, the walls, all very unhelpfully]

[Let's go with the translucent seeds, yes.]

[your goggles allow you to see that the seeds will become... gas masks?

gas masks.]

[Hm. Gas masks, huh...?]

So, I have a relevant question for you all... Do you need to breathe, or does being a skeleton mean you don't have to?

[the skeletons all shake their heads. the one you saved first—who will from here on out be the only one to speak—gives a verbal response.

"Breathing doesn't concern us. Nothing like that does anymore. Not since we've been out all of our organs."]

Then we probably don't need the translucent seeds. Still, let's see...

[Well, time to plant the other two types in different planters to see what grows.]

[they are now planted in the soil! do you water them?]

[But of course! There's no way this can go wrong, right?]

what grows out from the spherical seed you planted is a net, like what would be used to catch fish at sea. it's ingrained into the soil as it grows, but that is definitely a net.

whereas the pink-lined seed provides you with strips of bubblegum that smell... very off. very, very off.]

[Hmm... I suppose a net wouldn't hurt... Let's try to get that net out. In the mean time, talking to the skeletons.]

...I don't suppose any of you can tell what that bubblegum-like thing is?

[pulling the net out is certainly doable.

the skeletons, on the other hand, seem confused.

"It's not bubblegum? Hm. Hmmm. I have long forgotten the enjoyment of bubblegum."]

Well, I suppose it might be, but the smell's far enough off that I doubt it, so... I guess if you want to try it, you can?

[...Hm. Let me just. Plant one of the fire-resistant plant seeds I've been carrying in one of the planters, then water it, too.]

those fire-resistant seeds grow into... gloves that would reach up to your elbows! they are presumably fire-resistant gloves.]

[...Sure, whatever. Let's gather it and grow a gas mask, just in case, and then...]

All right then, we should head forward. We should maybe bring some water just in case, but otherwise, we need to see if we can find anything out there. a greenhouse isn't exactly a good place to permanently live, after all.
