[someone wearing a trench coat, a baseball cap, thick coke-bottle glasses, and knee-high polka-dotted rainboots, approaches you. sketchy, right? also horrendous, i mean, you can't make this outfit look good.

maybe you were still getting a feel for the town, or you're getting a knock on your door at the inn, or maybe you're not even IN town when this person finds you! it's hard to make out who they are from their ridiculous disguise, but their enlarged eyes (thanks to the coke-bottle glasses) seem to familiarly reflect galaxies...]

Well, well. We—I have been looking forward to getting a proper one-on-one with you! The council was a struggle to escape, but I hope they'll let bygones be bygones when they've figured out my trick. It's not like this is the first time!

[she laughs—] Ahem! [—then outstretches her weird trench-coated arms in greeting]

That would be a wonderful thing. With the combined efforts of the Fon Master and yourself, we may be able to ensure the salvation of both our worlds.

Yes—it'd be nice to form a strong bond with another country again. The ones that neighbor our own seem to have dropped their interest in our well-being after the labyrinth ordeal arose...

Enough about that. I must ask: why your leader is referred to as a Fon Master?

-- That's a good question actually. It was a title decided upon nearly two-thousand years ago...Fonons are very important on my world, and the Seventh Fonon is required for us to read our Score. Our Fon Master is likely called as such because, in theory, he is the master of the Seventh Fonon and has his own unique artes that he can perform.

I wish I had thought to bring a textbook or two with me. There have been clearer explanations written.

[nods to her, then stands a bit straighter]

May I ask why you reached out to us to call for help? I met a few others and it seems that very few of the people called have any military experience -- or even just combat experience. What exactly were you looking for in your recruits?

And this is a good question as well!

We don't actually know anything whatsoever about these labyrinths—my people, the council, the scouts, myself. Not a single one of us know what's going on inside. At this point, I am grateful enough to get the assistance of anyone who responded. The first step is discovering what is in these labyrinths, and I wanted was anyone who was brave enough to step foot inside one of them, first of all.

From there we could take further action, but... I think the lot of you are entirely capable, too. More than a military unit. Don't you think?

So you were looking for mere bravery...We'll have to wait and see to find out if our group is truly capable. As it is, if we know nothing about the target of our mission than we can't tell who would be best suited for handling it. As it is now, simply having scouts brave enough to venture inside will have to do.

If you don't mind another question: Is there something keeping you and your people from venturing inside as well?

There is something stopping us, but we don't understand it. My sorcery attempts don't affect them at all, and my people cannot venture in! All they can do is uncover the entrances, which is a very recent development—when I observed the scouts seemingly running into an invisible wall, I realized I'd have to rely on those from other worlds.

I hope you forgive me for thinking that calling people from other worlds would be the best solution was a bit of a leap...But until you called me I had no idea that other worlds even existed, so the idea of reaching out to them still seems like a grand one to me.

Forgiven! I shall utilize whatever solution I can get my hands on without making things worse! It's all about being resourceful, you know?

And it's thanks to my predecessors that the majority of my world is aware of other worlds existing. Not that this means much to them, of course.

Mhm, of course.

Do you mind telling me more about your predecessor? And what the other worlds do mean to your people?

My predecessor was my mother! And before her was my grandmother! And before her was... my great-grandmother! And so on, and so on. This kingdom, like many others in this world, is a monarchy involving royal inheritance of the throne.

The other worlds hold meaning to us, but on that same note we refrain from getting too involved. One time we tried with a particular world leader and it was met with disbelief. I never heard of you, they proclaimed! They denounced us, too, and, well, long story short, we respect the other worlds, but we don't try to get too involved in their affairs. Things like that.

I see...A matrilineal line of succession at that.

A shame that the potential alliance was brushed aside so easily...I suppose that's all the more reason to ensure that our alliance succeeds.

I'm very eager to form an alliance for that reason, too! We can prove that otherworldly alliances can exist, you know! Think of all the development that can come of it!

We simply have to ensure that the labyrinths are successfully dealt with until then.

—ah, come to think of it, I haven't properly introduced myself! My full name is Queen Dominique Ava-Zeva Eupheme. Really, formalities are so behind me that I could care less if you called me 'Queen' or by my first or last name. Never my middle names, though, that's too "quirky" for me.

'Queen', 'Dominique' or 'Eupheme'...I believe I'll stick with calling you 'Queen' for now, as that seems to be the closest thing you'll have to a nickname.
