So how do you know you're better than a master? Have you gone against one?

How do you define better? More power? More spells? More stamina? Who decides who is or isn't a master? We don't have an organized system for that.

More structure. Easier way to find out just what you're good at, and have someone teach you how to really become better at it. Even get better than they are at it. That's how it worked back home.

Magicians at home fight each other for power. If you're weak, you'll lose and maybe die! It's a simple system.

I don't think any world I've been to operates on that system.

It works out better than you might think. Ah, but it's treason if you go to another country and you're a magician.

That doesn't let you travel much.

There's ways to visit, as long as you come back.
